Sides Pea Farm
Sides Pea Farm began in 1957 when Winford and Virginia Sides bought 70 acres just south of Canton and began farming. Winford tried his hand at many vegetables—squash, tomatoes, potatoes, okra, watermelons, cantaloupes, peas, and beans—but soon discovered he had a special knack for raising peas and beans. He decided to focus exclusively on them and quickly became the largest grower of fresh market peas in Texas.
Winford handled the farming, and Virginia was the heart of the operation—selling produce at the farm and at surrounding farmer’s markets. Together, they built a legacy of quality, hard work, and community connection.
Since 1957, Sides Pea Farm has grown to include hundreds of acres of peas, with fresh produce found at fruit stands, markets, and stores across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
On February 9, 2024, we lost Virginia—our matriarch, storyteller, and the familiar face so many of you knew and loved. While she is no longer with us, we are committed to carrying on her legacy with the same passion and care that she poured into every customer interaction and every bag of peas.
We invite you to stop by the farm or call us to find locations that carry our peas. Though Virginia may not be there to greet you, her spirit and love for our business live on in everything we do.
